About: Join Astronomy Club's Monique Moses as she discusses the nuances of writing sketches that have social, racial or economic commentary. Working as both a classroom and a writer's room, Monique will break down ways in which you can weave these themes into your comedy, allowing you to create sketches that are not just funny but "say something".
Fool Vs Voice of Reason

Fundamentals of "game of the scene" improv. Be a good fool. Be a good voice of reason. We talk about: saying "yes" to accusations, saying why in an actorly, human way, "piling on" the fool, using "curiosity and compassion" to explore. Fun!

This introductory musical improv workshop introduces you to the basics of Hip Hop Improv: the combination of free-style rapping and scene work. North Coast instructor, Rachel Rosenthal, will guide you through the basics of free-styling which, instead of forcing the rhyme, is all about gaining access to the rhymes that have been in your catalogue since you were a kid. Learn how to set yourself up, find your flow, and weave your rapped verses into your improv scene work!

Stop spitting all over the microphone and start making jaws drop with your human drum machine skills. Taught by one of North Coast's own beatboxers, Doctor Brick, this workshop will take you through the fundamentals of beatboxing technique, and how to apply those techniques to your own ideas. From boots-and--cuts to BTK's basics, you'll walk out feeling confident enough to show off your skills solo, or collaborate with any freestyle cypher you encounter.
