About this Class:

This 8 week musical improv class will get you comfortable and confident with freestyle rapping and will teach you how to weave your rapped verses in and out of your scenes. You’ll get a feel for rhyme scheme basics, creating musical and rhythmic hooks, and you’ll learn three different ways to get into a hip hop improv song. Good scene-work is imperative to good musical improv; let’s drill into the deal of your scene and its’ characters so you can learn how to set yourself up, find your flow, and rap from a place that matters.

About The Teacher:

Rachel Rosenthal is an improviser with over 15 years experience. She is also a free-style rapper. Based in NYC, Rachel is currently a faculty improv instructor at Miami Ad School and has also taught at Reckless Theatre and The Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT) where she was awarded the 2014 Teacher of the Year.  She has led improv workshops for performers all over the world from Barcelona to Vancouver to Hawaii and is also known for her work with corporate improv trainings. Previously a member of the ImprovBoston MainStage for many years, Rachel now tours nationally & internationally with acclaimed free-form team, Big Bang, in addition to North Coast.  Rachel is also an actress and storyteller and has been featured on several podcasts including This American Life, Slate’s The Gist, WBUR’s You’re the Expert, Myq Kaplan’s Hang Out With Me, and Kevin Alison’s RISK! – for which the AV Club called her performance a “tour de force.”  The Huffington Post once called her an “improv whirlwind” but feel free to make your own observations:
